From ICON

The front end geometry of the Gen 2 Raptor was found to be fairly similar to the previous model truck, however the shock mounting points had been moved higher up on the chassis. Seeing this as an opportunity, the team was able to design a 3.0 Series coilover that has more shaft travel while utilizing a barreled coil spring for more efficient packaging. The vehicle-specific valving featured in these shocks and the all new ICON-engineered spring work together to provide exceptional on-road ride quality with excellent off-road characteristics. ICON's multi-stage hydraulic "Bump Zone" adds to the performance capability by providing an exponential increase in damping ability during the last 40% of compression travel for superior bottom-out resistance. In the ride zone, these 3.0 Series coilovers see a 50% increase in damping ability with the use of a significantly larger piston than what is found in the factory shocks. New 10" finned aluminum reservoirs provide a generous amount of shock oil while also providing an increase in surface area for enhanced cooling and consistent damping. The addition of ICON's CDC Valve technology provides 10 settings of damping adjustment allowing the end-user to adjust the "feel" of the shocks for different terrains and vehicle cargo configurations. All of these features work together to deliver the perfect blend of on-road comfort and off-road performance.

Why this 3.0 Series VS RR Front Coilover Kit

ICON 3.0 Series coilovers replace the factory strut with a threaded-body, vehicle-specific unit for the 2017-2021 Ford F-150 Raptor. Ride height is set on the spring collar within the listed range, and damping is valved for this truck rather than a generic length.

Questions

IR, RR, PB: what is the difference?

IR is an internal reservoir, a self-contained monotube body. RR is a remote reservoir connected by hose and PB is a piggyback reservoir bolted to the body; both add oil volume and cooling so damping stays consistent on long rough sections. IR is lighter and simpler; RR and PB resist fade.

CDCV, CDEV, CDXS: which adjuster?

CDCV is a 10-position manual compression knob. CDEV is an electronic compression valve controlled by the ICON Intelligent Control module and phone app, which reads speed and terrain and adjusts on the fly; it requires the IIC install kit. CDXS is a manual dual-circuit adjuster with 10 marked detents each for compression and rebound. Shocks without a code run ICON's fixed vehicle-specific valving.

Can these be serviced?

Yes. Every ICON shock and coilover is rebuildable and revalveable through ICON factory shock service. The shock warranty is 12 months against manufacturing defects.

Do I need an alignment?

Yes. Any change to front ride height requires a four-wheel alignment after installation.

Do I need upper control arms?

ICON recommends aftermarket upper control arms once front lift exceeds roughly 2 in on independent-front-suspension trucks, to restore alignment range and ball joint angle. The Stage 2 and higher systems for this truck include them.

Who installs it?

ICON requires professional installation and does not cover failures caused by improper installation. Plan on a shop with a lift and an alignment rack for anything that changes ride height.
